Flavio and Prisca discuss the research project ‘Domenic Boundaries’ which looks at how the house is becoming more public and, vice versa, how the city is getting domesticated. Flavio explains why these socio-economic phenomenons are happening, what are the current influences on cities and houses and how the pandemic played a role in speeding up many of these processes. Flavio Martella holds a master’s degree in architecture and engineering from the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, and is a doctoral candidate in architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid where he researches the expansion of the concept of domesticity into the urban (and vice versa). He has been a researcher at West Virginia University for the conceptualisation and development of an experimental prototype of self-sufficient housing, first built in Los Angeles and then exhibited at the Tellus Museum in Cartersville. As an architect he worked in different practices in The Netherlands, Italy and Spain, where he participated in the development of numerous relevant projects, exhibitions, and research projects presented at the Biennials of Rotterdam, Seoul, Orleans and the Tabacalera in Madrid.
He is a professor at the Master in Architectural Communication at UPM, and has been invited as guest lecturer in the Master in Collective Housing at UPM and ETH. Since 2018 he is co-founder of m²ft architects, where he develops projects, exhibitions and research projects aware of the contemporary dissolution of dualities, trying to establish new possible connections with architecture and other disciplines. His projects have been awarded and published in different platforms, magazines and books.

[IT] Flavio Martella ha conseguito la laurea magistrale in architettura e ingegneria presso l'Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata ed è dottorando in architettura presso l'Universidad Politécnica de Madrid dove ricerca l'espansione del concetto di domesticità nell'urbano (e viceversa). È stato ricercatore presso la West Virginia University per l'ideazione e lo sviluppo di un prototipo sperimentale di abitazione autosufficiente, prima costruito a Los Angeles e poi esposto al Tellus Museum di Cartersville. Come architetto ha lavorato in diversi studi nei Paesi Bassi, in Italia e in Spagna, dove ha partecipato allo sviluppo di numerosi progetti rilevanti, mostre e progetti di ricerca presentati alle Biennali di Rotterdam, Seoul, Orleans e alla Tabacalera di Madrid.
È docente al Master in Architectural Communication presso UPM ed è stato invitato come docente ospite al Master in Collective Housing presso UPM e ETH. Dal 2018 è co-fondatore di m²ft architects, dove sviluppa progetti, mostre e ricerche consapevoli della dissoluzione contemporanea delle dualità, cercando di stabilire nuove possibili connessioni con l'architettura e altre discipline. I suoi progetti sono stati premiati e pubblicati su diverse piattaforme, riviste e libri.
